SHE: AN EXPRESSION OF WOMANHOOD

Anne Marie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center located in Solomons, MD has created an on-line exhibition due to the Covid-19 shutdown. This exhibition entitled "She: An Expression of Womanhood is hung in the Kay Daugherty Gallery.  The Arts Center is hopeful they will be able to open soon to offer it to the public, but for now enjoy in the comfort of your home.

The piece I have in the exhibit is entitled "Last Memories?2" and is an exploration of dementia and what last memories might look like.  In addition I was interpreting Andy Warhol's pop culture repetitive style. It was created from vintage photos with digital alchemy, printed on silk charmeuse and post production shibori.  The subjects are iconic: Mother and Grandmother with photos circa 1940's. This piece was created in response to a call for entry by ACN, "Interpretations". It was shown at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center in Evanston, Illinois and then the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.  It was also shown in an exhibit at the Arc Gallery in San Francisco, CA.
Now and then my mother continues to show up in various pieces of my fiber art. This was also true of Andy Warhol and our mom's were both Julia!

  2. A beautiful and sad piece. The heartbreak of dementia is so difficult. You’ve represented it beautifully.
