Creating artwork in a series can provide valuable insight by Russ Little

Outward Movement #7

Early in my journey as an artist I often created one-off pieces of art as an exploration of an idea, the result of a workshop, or in response to a call for entry. Over the years I've found that I derive far more satisfaction and produce better artwork when I create pieces in a series. Doing so allows me to explore ideas and techniques more deeply. I usually have several series running at a time, and they generally span several years. I send some time looking at my Outward Movement series, which I've recently brought to a close.

You can read my thoughts about the series and see all of the Outward Movement pieces on my blog at:

Hi Russ,
I appreciate your meticulousness in record keeping and in your thought process. Another thought about size of art, I noticed that the first 3 smaller pieces have sold, because they were made earlier or is that related to price??

I heartily agree, Russ. Whenever I finish a work, I am wondering how I could do it better/differently.
